Personal profile

SUMMARY of research interests (100 words)

I am a Senior Lecturer in Cognitive Neuroscience in the Department of Psychology at Lancaster University UK, where I lead the Neuroscience of Speech and Action (NoSA) Lab. NoSA Lab investigate research questions surrounding how hearing and speech, action, and cognition are represented in the brain; how these functions work in health and disease; and how they are affected by the ageing process. To answer these questions, we use a variety of methods, including brain imaging, non-invasive brain stimulation, and behavioural techniques.

I am also Research Group Lead for Neuroscience and Neurocognition in the Department of Psychology, and Co-director of the cross-Faculty Neuroscience Research At Lancaster (NeuRAL) Network.

As well as doing the science, I also love communicating it and ensuring it reaches those who can benefit from it. I am a Seed Talks speaker, a TEDx talker, and a regular radio and podcast guest. Alongside Dr Kate Slade, I co-host a podcast called ‘Drs Confess’ about the secret diary of academic life (expect snippets of science, reflections on research culture, and lots of humour!).

I am open to PhD students looking for postdoctoral fellowship opportunities, collaboration with businesses or charities, or science communication events. Please just email me to get in touch!
