I work on Transient Astronomy, with a specific interest in:
My research focuses on the explosion physics and the progenitor systems of the Type Ia Supernovae (SNe Ia). As an observational astronomer, I participate in large astronomical surveys, such as the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF), the 4-metre Multi-Object Spectroscopic Telescope Time-Domain Extragalactic Survey (4MOST/TiDES) and the La Silla Schmidt Southern Survey (LS4), accumulating high quality observational data and, in combination with input from theorists, providing physical interpretations. I have been interested in the photometric and spectroscopic diversity of thermonuclear explosions, and particularly the peculiar SNe Ia, both as extreme explosions on their own scientific merit but also their effect on contaminating normal SNe Ia samples and their bias in cosmological measurements. My long-term research goal is to understand the multiple ways white dwarfs can explode.
