Cami Rowe works across the disciplines of Theatre, Performance and International Politics. She holds a BA, MA and MPhil in Drama and a PhD in International Relations. Her research addresses the theatrical elements of global politics and related applied theatre and performance practices. With an emphasis on US and UK contexts, her work examines the practical methods that Theatre and Performance can offer in the context of radical democratic initiatives, using applied theatre as a means to reinvigorate political interaction and dialogue.  Her most recent monograph, Performance and Politics in a Digital Populist Age (Routledge 2023) examines the problematic role of theatricality in digitally-mediated populism, and the positive interventions that participatory applied theatre practices might achieve.  She is also engaged in practice-based research with local community groups and arts organisations, exploring the ways that applied theatre can empower marginalised groups and facilitate more diverse democratic engagement. 

Cami is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is Co-Director of Studies for Theatre and the Programme Lead for the MA Theatre for Social, Political and Environmental Change.  She supervises several PhD students and welcomes inquiries from potential PhD candidates working in the areas of political theatre, performance activism, applied theatre, and related topics.
