Personal profile

SUMMARY of research interests (100 words)

Our lab is passionate about exploring RNA's diverse roles in regulating fundamental biological processes. We focus on how intrinsic RNA traits influence key mechanisms, such as gene expression, and systems like the body’s defense mechanisms, termed " immunity ", essential for life. Leveraging cutting-edge technologies, including next-generation sequencing, genome editing, and in-house tool development, we aim to uncover RNA’s molecular dynamics in detail. Our interdisciplinary approach bridges molecular/RNA biology, biotechnology, and computational science, incorporating physics and math to push the boundaries of RNA research. Ultimately, our goal is to apply this knowledge to precision medicine, advancing RNA-based diagnostics and therapeutics for treating immune-associated diseases.

Current Research

My current research is funded by BBSRC and the Lancaster University Faculty of Health & Medicine, and focuses on:

a) developing tools suitable to infer RNA dynamics at single-nucleotide resolution in human cells.

b) exploring cell intrinsic RNA dynamics in relation to our inherent body's defense system, called " innate immunity ".

Current Teaching

I teach RNA regulation contributing to Genetics BIOL253/311 module.

I undertake the supervision of undergraduate and post-graduate research students contributing to BIOL387/a and BIOL469/470 modules.
