The department has a friendly, informal and collaborative atmosphere, which supports those who study, work and visit here achieve success.
The department has a wide range of research interests with an average annual research income is in excess of £2.25m, nearly two thirds of which is in collaboration with industry.
Research is split into four groups, all of which deliver internationally recognised work:
- Micro-Nano Systems
- E-MIT (Engineering of Microwaves, Terahertz and Light)
- Energy
- Structures and Manufacturing
Innovative teaching and research
We have world-leading academics, who are involved in state-of-the-art research which influences the material that we teach. We adopt innovative teaching methods including the pioneering use of creative project work and a design-build-test approach to learning, helping our students learn interactively and gain hands-on experience. We are an International Partner in the CDIO™ initiative, which seeks to revolutionise engineering education.
