Cross-cutting research action that stimulates and supports research that cuts across traditional disciplinary boundaries to address global environmental challenges.
Action:
Understanding the sustainable management of the environment to provide the resources needed by society while securing environmental protection.
Context:
The environment supplies the resources on which the health, wealth and well-being of all societies depend. Our research investigates sustainable approaches to food production, clean air and water; energy and essential minerals and the ecosystems which provide a range of services from fertile soils and sustainable pest control to cultural well-being. We see our strength in our core research disciplines as the foundation for genuinely interdisciplinary interactions that embrace both the social and natural sciences. We work together to improve environmental resource management in ways that respects not only the need for environmental protection but also for sustainable development that is just, equitable and inclusive.
