Our Department has a reputation for excellent teaching and internationally recognised research. In the 2009 National Student Survey, the Department of English & Creative Writing (a subdivision of English-based studies) was ranked nationally as joint first in overall student satisfaction, with a rating of 97%. Extensively published, experienced and flexible staff teach across a range of literary periods and specialisms. Our joint degrees give you the chance to take courses in English Literature whilst at the same time writing fiction, poetry and scripts under the supervision of prizewinning creative writers. The Department's postgraduate community includes over a hundred students from all over the world, and our high quality intake at all levels ensures a lively and stimulating environment for both undergraduates and postgraduates.
