Description
The growth of the medical/health bureaucracy has long raised concerns over inefficiency and productivity lags. However, large bureaucracies have also enabled systematic data collection, standardization and quality control. Periods of upheaval and reform have alternated between centralization and devolved authority models. Media reports of A&E wait times have contributed to negative public discourse around bureaucracy and the NHS.
